On attaining manhood he went prospecting in the West and engaged in trade and speculation there. After a few years absence he returned to Newfields, where he afterwards resided, inheriting and occupying the homestead farm which his father had established there.
In town affairs he was an active figure, holding several public offices, and for many years he was deacon in the Congregational Church. He died April 8, 1873, at Newfields.
He married May 5, 1842, at Lynn, MA, Louisa Frances Meade, born June 8, 1806, at Northwood, NH, died Feb. 24, 1888, at Newfields, NH, daughter of Levi and Susanna (Hilton) Meade.
