Canestaro, Deborah Ann

Deborah Ann Canestaro passed away peacefully on December 30, 2016 in Boston, Massachusetts surrounded by her loving family and lifelong friends. Deborah would have turned 67 on January 19th, 2017. She resided in Brooktondale, NY in the beautiful home she has lived in for almost 40 years.

Deborah was born on January 19, 1950 in Cortland, NY to Carmen and Virginia(Johns) Canestaro. Debb grew up in Ithaca, NY and graduated from Ithaca High School in 1968. After college, Deborah spent several years in Boston where her daughters were born. During this time, life-long friendships were made. Deborah was married on April 11th, 1981 at the Cayuga Inn to Richard Schoch. They had been married for almost 36 years. They built a beautiful home and life together in Brooktondale with their children Lesley, Korina and Dylan.

Deborah worked at Cornell University's Shoals Marine Lab for many years. After leaving Cornell, she obtained her realtor license and worked for nearly ten years helping clients obtain their first homes. Dedicated to her community, Deborah was involved in many civic activities including helping start the after-school program at Caroline Elementary School. She served on the board of Better Homes of Tompkins County and worked with Habitat for Humanity. She felt strongly about giving back to the community. Deborah was loyal, consistent, nurturing and had a vivacious personality.

Deborah is survived by her husband of 36 years, Richard H. Schoch, Her Two Daughters - Lesley Richter and Korina Castro (Rafael) and Son Dylan Schoch (Suzanne); Three grandchildren Jakob Richter, Isabella and Sebastian Castro. Her Three Brothers - Stephen (Michele), Carmen (Susan) and Joseph (Rose); Her Niece Gabriella Canestaro and Nephews Marcus, Micah and Christopher Canestaro.

Deborah was a mother to so many people beyond her own children, she loved with such a huge heart that had never ending space for all. She had so very many friends. If we were to list all the names of those who loved her, it wouldn't be contained in a book. Her beautiful singing voice and infectious laugh will be greatly missed. Peace be with you dear Deborah. We love you.
