Richard was born April 9, 1945 in Elkhart to the late Eugene DeWayne and Evelyn Drudge Artley.
Surviving is his wife Dorothy of Elkhart. Also surviving are 4 children; Rick, Scott, Kim and Chris Artley, and 3 step-children, Craig Siler, Karen Lopez and Travis Puckett. Surviving as well are his 4 sisters; Sharon Neely, Jan Alwine, Mary (Danny) Dull, Nancy Albaugh, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Harold Bryarly.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the noon memorial service and Military Honors on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Walley Mills Zimmerman Funeral Home in Elkhart.
Interment will take place at Prairie Street Cemetery on a later date.
Richard proudly served in the Marines for 27 years from 1962-1989. After retiring as a Master Sergeant from the Marine Corps, he worked for 19 years as a warehouse supervisor at L.E. Johnson Products.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #88.
The Artley family would like to give thanks to Dr. Porsche, Dr. Jin and his staff, and the nurses at Hospice for the care given to Richard in his time of need.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to United Cancer Services of Elkhart County.
