Adelbert Richard was born in Nebraska to William F. and Norah (O'Conell) McNear. His father was born in Iowa, and his mother in Free Ireland.

He was united in marriage to Helen McClanahan on Feb. 17th, 1926 at Council Bluffs, Iowa. Though they both were born in Nebraska, on their marriage license both said they were Irish, as that was their heritage.

In 1930, the McNears were farming in Summit Township, Burt County, Nebraska. The 1930 US Census lists a large family:
William F. McNear, 67, b.IA, head, farming
Nora McNear, 64, b.Ireland, wife
Mabel D. McNear, 21, b.NE, daughter
Adelburt McNear, 27, b.NE, son, farming
Helen M. McNear, 22, b.NE, daughter-in-law
Barbara M. McNear, 2, b.NE, granddaughter
Thomas McNear, 24, b.NE, son, farming
Pauline A. McNear, 21, b.NE, daughter-in-law.

The couple farmed west of Tekamah for several years. They were blessed with two daughters.

In 1935-1940, Helen and A.R. were living in Summit Township, Burt County. Both Helen and A.R. had completed 2nd year High School. The 1940 US Census lists:
A.R. McNear, 38, head
Helen McNear, 32, wife
Barbara McNear, 12, daughter, 8th grade
Kathryn McNear, 8, daughter, 2nd grade.

Sadly, Mr. McNear passed away on Jan. 30th, 1968.
