Jim Baynes, 97, passed away on December 21, 2016.

He attended Purdue University where he was a member of the Acacia Fraternity and graduated in 1942 with a degree in Agronomy. He served in WWII from 1943-46 as a Navy lieutenant in the Pacific fleet. His career included working for Purdue University, the Indiana seed corn growers, and the U.S. Dept of Agriculture.

He is survived by daughters Polly Pershing, Becky Gratz, Barbara Kroon, and son David, 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by daughter Susan and his 4 siblings.

Jim enjoyed trees and the beauty of wood. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested making a donation in his honor to the TREE Fund at the Indiana Arborist Association.

A Masonic service, followed by the funeral service, will be held at 2:00p on Wed, Jan 4 at the Kresge chapel of the Indiana Masonic Home, Franklin, IN.

Committal services will be Thursday, Jan. 5, at 10:30a at Highland Friends Cemetery, Washington County, IN.
