Son of:
Robert W. Greenwood and Jean Bannatyne

Husband of:
Mary E. Schoch, married June 12, 1982. Daughter of Carroll George " Bud" Schoch and Maryann Courchaine.

Wayne A. Greenwood, 57, of Cheboygan, went home to see his Lord on Dec. 11, 2015 surrounded by loving family, friends and caregivers. Wayne was born on April 16, 1958 in Cheboygan to Robert W. and Jean (Bannatyne) Greenwood. On June 12, 1982, Wayne married Mary E. Schoch and their marriage was blessed with two children, Jacob and Mallory.
Wayne graduated from Cheboygan Area High School and Northern Michigan University Vocational Skills Center for welding. He was proud to be employed with Ryba Marine Construction. His employment afforded him the opportunity to achieve many of his goals including underwater welding and his greatest achievement as he went on to earn his Great Lakes Captain's license. On Oct. 27, 1995, Wayne's life changed dramatically when he was involved in a catastrophic car accident when broadsided. Wayne suffered a traumatic brain injury, leaving him wheelchair-bound and care-dependent for the remaining twenty years of his life. Wayne's injuries didn't restrict him from attending and taking part in all of his children's school and special events. He was able to enjoy the arts his children excelled in which he enjoyed with great pride. He also enjoyed attending weekly Mass, family gatherings/outings, and trips to Mackinaw City to fudge around. His loving and dedicated wife continued to focus on making their family life wonderful, as she simultaneously sought out many therapies and treatments to enhance Wayne's quality of life. Wayne's family is truly appreciative and indebted to the many home health care attendants who made an eventful life possible for Wayne throughout the years. They became an extension of the actual family and literally became Wayne's hands and feet. Wayne's passions in life were his family, his friends, and helping others. Wayne had a happy, outgoing personality and was the life of every party. He also enjoyed cooking, bowling, hunting, fishing, boating, gardening, dancing, and whistling. Wayne is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Jacob (Jocelyn) Greenwood and Mallory (Anthony) Ozzello; siblings, Robert (Terri Layton) Greenwood, James (Neva) Greenwood, Barbara (John) Landrie, Patricia (Elizabeth Golden) Greenwood, Jeanne (Craig) Malone; parents-in-law, Carroll "Bud" and Maryann Schoch; siblingsin-law, Bud (Sue Ann) Schoch and Sally Schoch; and aunt, Pearl Bannatyne. Wayne is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation for family and friends was held on Monday, Dec. 14, 2015 at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be celebrated today, Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church with the family greeting friends beginning at 10 a.m. The Rev. Craig Haider will officiate and interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
