Leone Marion Thorndike, 101, of Ridgecrest Village in Davenport, entered the kingdom of Heaven on Friday, February 13, 2015. Funeral services will be at 10 A.M., Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 P.M. at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to the family. Leone was born April 20, 1913, in Minneapolis, MN, the eldest daughter of Charles and Emma (Dahl) Grass. She was married in 1931, to the late Jack Thorndike. They were married for 34 years. They were blessed with four children. Leone retired from the Davenport School District in 1977. She was a member of the El Bethel Assembly of God Church, where she taught Sunday School for 31 years. At the West Side Assembly of God she was named Mother of the Year. At the time of her death, she attended the Maranatha Church of God.

Leone enjoyed playing her beloved piano at home, and also played at her church and at several nursing homes. She also loved crafts and created "Crosses in my Pocket," which have been distributed to people throughout the world. She loved gardening, listening to gospel music, and collecting angels. She was a member of the Women's Missionary group at her church.

Surviving Leone is her daughter, Peggy Moffett, sister, Leota Maxfield, 20 grandchildren, and many great- and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; children: Dolores Pederson, Betty Crowe and Jimmie Thorndike and siblings Clayton Grass, Lettie Carroll and Charles Grass.
