He was married 24 Jun 1896 in Washington, DC to Elizabeth Amilda Gibbs, a DC native.
They had no surviving children, and Elizabeth died in 1924 of heart trouble.
Barry was the oriental rug buyer for Chandler & Co. (Boston) during the early 1910's, a director in the 1920's, and became it's president upon the death of his brother Charles, who was serving as the Co. president when he died suddenly in 1930.
(On the return from one of his buying trips in 1911, he came back from Liverpool on the "Lusitania"; this ship was torpedoed and sunk 4 years later)
He also served as president of the mother church, First Church of Christ Scientist of Boston, being first elected in 1935 and serving until his passing.
