Wife of Moses Ballou Jr., married 12/28/1818 in RI.

Daughter of John Randall and Mercy Mowry

Mother of:

1. John Randall Ballou (1819-1820) Smithfield RI
(later named Lincoln), buried with his grandparents.

2. Desire Carpenter (Ballou) Read (1821-1882) Swanzey NH
m Benjamin Read* (1817-1900).

3. Moses Dexter Ballou (1822-1867) Swanzey NH

4. Albert Randall Ballou (1824-1865) Swanzey NH
~~~~~~~~~~~
Son Albert R joined the Regular Army before volunteers were called for Civil War, signing up for 3 years. He was shot in the thigh and badly wounded at "the Battle below Richmond".
Afterwards when Albert and Moses were called up in 1863, they obtained substitutes.
"The History of Swanzey, New Hampshire, from 1735-1890", by Benjamin Read in 1892.
*The author of the above history appears to be the same Benjamin Read that married Desire Carpenter Ballou.
The children's burials have not yet been located. Some are likely in the Caesar Cemetery in Swanzey.
~~~~~~~~
Notes: From the database in the Library at Troy, Martha's death year is given as 1872, but the death record at Swanzey says 1873, as well as the History of Swanzey, written by her son-in-law.

Moses and Martha are not assigned a Section number or Plot in the spreadsheet provided by the Town. I was unable to locate them on the scanned maps for Section 1, where they are most likely to be.
