Daniel Stewart, baptized May 9, 1731, in East Haddam,Conn, was called "of Litchfield" when he married in East Haddam Jan. 11, 1762, Phebe Chapman, born Sep. 9, 1736, daughter of David and Abigail (Lee) Chapman. He was a protegee of his uncle, William Stewart, and appears on the land records of Cornwall when on April 10, 1755, he "of New Fairfield" bought land of Ebenezer Seeley [i:451]. On Jan. 7,1756 he "of Litchfield" and John Allen were owners of original rights in Cornwall [ix:546]; on April 1, 1756, he sold land there to Ebenezer Seeley [ii:76]; and on Nov. 24, 1757, he deeded William Stuart of East Haddam all the land he owned in Cornwall [ii:105]. His wife Phebe died Jan. 20,1775 in Cornwall. He married Zeriah____. They were living in Cornwall in 1790, 2-1-4.
