Francis Washington Smith, who resided in Lamar County, Ala. Clay County, Miss., 1878 — 1895, is at present a resident of Waco, Texas. He served as private and flag-bearer in the Civil War, being a private in the 27th Alabama Regiment. He took part in all the important battles in which the Army of Northern "Virginia was engaged, from 1861 to 1863, and was disabled at Franklin, Tenn. in November, 1864. ********************************************************************* William Hall Smith of Jackson, ex-State Superintendent of Education of Mississippi, was born February 8th, 1866, near Vernon, Lamar County, Alabama, and is the son of Francis Washington Smith and Martha Jane Brazil Smith.
