William Russell Wilson, 86, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, nephew and friend, passed away on Aug 22, 1999 at Courtland Living Center in Ellsworth after a brief illness. He was born in Jonesport, Maine on July 26, 1913, the son of Newman and Georgia Rogers Wilson. He was predeceased by his wife and soul mate of 60 years, Marguerite Lenfestey Wilson, on July 19, 1997 and one grandson, Ryan Pettengill. He is survived by one son, Gary and his wife Janis of Sargentville, three daughters, Helen Leighton of Gloucester, Mass., Rania and her husband Rod Pettengill of Sibley, MO, Wanda and her husband, Larry Sickles of Stonington; one brother, Leon and his wife, Joanne of Brewer; four sisters, Pauline and her husband, Chester Gray, Marion Smith, Virginia Dyer and Laverne and her husband, Carroll Bates, all of Jonesport; four sisters-in-law, Eileen Beal, Gracia McGahagin, Ruth Carver and Leta Beal, all of Beals; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. First and foremost, William served his God for over 60 years as a minister in the RLDS Church and the Church of Jesus Christ, Sunset, Maine Restoration Branch. He taught in the public-school system for 42 years, beginning his teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse on Beals Island, moving on to Orrington, Bar Harbor, Ellsworth and Stonington, where he retired in June 1977. He was involved in all aspects of church and school life, including Zion's League, teaching Sunday School, performing well over 350 marriages, numerous funerals, baby blessings and being called out day or night to have prayer with the sick. He was a Boy Scoutmaster, music director, coach and ran the score clock for basketball games for 33 years. William had a tremendous love for the human race, especially young people. He has touched many lives and will be remembered for his kindness, compassion and wonderful sense of humor. Friends may pay their respects at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell funeral home in Stonington from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Aug 23. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ, Sunset Restoration Branch, Sunset Maine. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Sunset. A scholarship will be established in William's name. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be sent to Wanda W. Sickles, P.O. Box 113, Deer Isle, ME 04627
