Alice Virginia Cowell, 94, peacefully passed away Monday, December 26, 2016, at Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, Missouri.

Alice was born September 26, 1922, in Memphis, Missouri, to Milo and Francis Hudnall- Franklin.

Alice graduated from Memphis High School and furthered her education by completing two years of business school. Alice returned to Memphis where she met the love of her life, Marion Cowell.

Alice and Marion were married December 6, 1963 at the Lancaster Christian Church in Lancaster, Missouri.

Together, Alice and Marion enjoyed farming in the Lawn Ridge community until September 1981, at which time they moved to Wyoming. Alice and Marion upheld a sheep and cattle ranch in Cody, Wyoming until 1986 when they retired. In 1991, Alice and Marion returned to Memphis, Missouri.

After the passing of her late husband, Marion, Alice spent much of her time with her cherished friend Irene Kazwara. The two enjoyed conversing over coffee and playing cards as members of the Rural Rough Riders Playing Card Association. Alice enjoyed hosting family dinners, baking pies, gardening, farming with her husband, and playing card games with family and friends. Alice will forever be remembered for “shooting the moon” while playing the Pitch card game and for always being “better than new” when asked how she was.

Alice is survived by her nephew Robert F. Simpson and wife Tracy Simpson of Memphis, MO; niece Debbie Hamilton and husband Tommy Hamilton of Hurst, TX; great-nieces Amy Gaudette and husband Paul Gaudette of Granger, MO, Taylar Parrish and husband Andrew Parrish of Edina, MO, Brooklynne Fogle and husband Kiel Fogle of Fairview, TX; brother-in-law Bob Prather of Bedford, TX.; and treasured friend Irene Kazwara of Memphis, MO.

Alice was preceded in death by her treasured husband, Marion Cowell of Memphis, MO; parents Milo and Francis Franklin of Memphis, MO; a sister, Josephine Simpson and brother-in-law Robert E. Simpson of Memphis, MO, and sister Rachel Prather of Bedford, TX; niece Ginny Monroe of Memphis, MO; and brother-in-law Robert E. Simpson of Memphis, MO.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Alice asks that contributions be made to Lawn Ridge Cemetery.
