Clemon O. VanGundy passed away Friday, Feb. 17, at the Fairfax Community Hospital where he had been a patient five weeks. He had been in failing health for more than five years.

Clemon, age 83 years, 4 months, 17 days, son of William VanGundy and Elvina Baker VanGundy, was born at the home place where he lived the rest of his life.

He received his schooling in the Milton and Fairfax High Schools and as his life career, he took up farming, retiring in 1972.

Clemon was the last of the older generation of the Milton community, out-living many of his friends who were in the same age group.

From 1948 until his death, he served as a member on the Milton Cemetery board. He was a member of the Church of God, Craig.

On Feb. 12, 1916, Clemon and Miss Lucile E. Martin of Craig, were united in marriage and to this union, five children were born; Mrs. F. O. (Virginia) Rhoades, Oakland, Calif.; Mrs. Ted (Frances) Millsap, of Rock Port,; Dick Van Gundy, Tarkio; Mrs. Jim (Dorothy Jean) Bradley, rock Port; and Billy G. Van Gundy, Fairfax.

Mrs. Van Gundy died on Nov. 13, 1940. On June 25, 1942, Clemon and Miss Dorothy Moore, St. joseph, were married. He and Dorothy continued making their home on the Van Gundy farm.

Survivors include wife, Dorothy, of the home; the five children, Virginia, Dick, Frances, Dorothy Jean and Bill; four sisters, Mrs. Minta Mallory, St. Joseph; Mrs. Eva Gilkison, Lakewood, Colo.; Mrs. Ora Williams, Maysville; Mrs. Beulah Hawkins, Fairfax; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lucile; two brothers, Wilbur and Elvis and four sisters, Britty Loleta, Monta Ray, Ethel and Tressie.

Clemon was a good neighbor and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Craig Church of God, with the Rev. Zane Holland, pastor of the Craig Nazarene Church officiating. Music was in charge of Mrs. Gary Wennihan with Mrs. Mabel Bailey, pianist.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Dan Cooper, Gordon Van Gundy, Mike Cooper, Jack Millsap, Bruce Van Gundy and Terry Simmons.

Burial was in I.O.O.F. cemetery, near Craig.
