Mr Thomas Riley Atkins was born February 13, 1942 in Shreveport, Louisiana to the late John H. Atkins and Annie Gryder Atkins. He passed away following an extended illness on December 27, 2016 at the Overton Brooks V.A. Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles Atkins and Alvin Atkins; and a great-grandson, Noah Middleton.

Funeral services for Mr. Atkins will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. Reverends Marty Black and Casey Johnson will officiate the services. Interment with military honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 29th, at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.

Mr. Atkins was a member of the Bonita Road Baptist Church, a veteran of the United States Army, and a retired meat market manager for Safeway Grocery Company.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Tina Atkins; his two daughters, Rhonda Murry Russell and her husband, Jay Russell, and Deborah Atkins Calhoun and her husband, Heath Calhoun. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Haylee Murry Middleton and her husband, Brady Middleton, Mary Lorene Murry Hicks and her husband, Jason Hicks, Charley Pearl Russell, and Ryley James Calhoun; three great-grandchildren, Audrey Middleton, Grant Middleton, and Evie Middleton; and a brother, Jimmie Atkins and his wife, Theresa Atkins.

Serving as pallbearers are Charles Burns, Boyce Copeland, Doyle Murphy, Gerald Farrar, Kenneth Robinson, and David Murry. Honorary pallbearers are James Calhoun and Mark Middleton.
