In memory of Mary Ann Bunn,
09/25/1927 - 12/24/2016

On Christmas Eve, 2016, she finally got her Christmas wish. Mary Ann Askew Bunn, only child of Tommie Lee Edmondson and Waymon Horace Askew, passed over to a better and pain free world. Surrounded by family, she quietly slipped away.

A lifelong genealogist, she was proud to have been born in Fayette County, Georgia in 1927, a direct descendant of founding father, Eli Edmondson.

A member of the Fayette County High School Class of 1945, she was captain of her basketball team, author of the words to the alma mater, and overall student leader. Much to her delight, she became the scandal of her class trip to Florida when she eloped to marry Jesse D. Bunn. They were married for 51 years until his death in 1996.

Mary Ann and Jesse Bunn formed Bunn Pest Control Company, which they owned and operated until their retirement in 1987. They were an active voice in the Pest Control Associations in the Atlanta area as proponents for the removal of the chemical DDT, having been concerned by the findings in the book, The Silent Spring.

Known nationally for her genealogy research, she was a member of the Fayette County Historical Society and the Henry County Historical Society. She had been a life-long member of the Flat Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by her four daughters, Jerri and Dave Slemons of McDonough, Ann Clark of Senoia, Bonnie and Larry Smetzer of Sebastian, FL, and Charlotte and Frank Robinson of Peachtree City. She especially adored her ten grandchildren, Chuck Spahos, Lee Spahos, Gregory David Slemons, Rob Clark, Jess Duke, Elizabeth Hughes, Ashley Wilson, Brian Smetzer, Brad Robinson, and Michael Robinson, and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will take place Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City. Burial will follow at Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
