Ella Mae Washington Finley, 89, of Winchester, died Friday, December 23, 2016 at her home. Mrs. Finley was born on July 27, 1927 in White Post, VA. She was a daughter of the late John David and Virgie Washington. She was a longtime active member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Winchester, where she served as a member of the Ushers Ministry, Missionaries, Willing Workers, and the former Improvement Club. She loved attending church and serving God.

Ella loved large and noisy family gatherings. In addition to her own children and grandchildren, she also enjoyed the years she spent as a childcare worker at Fremont Street Nursery and Angel Place.

Ella was married to Floyd R. Finley III for 52 years before he preceded her in death in 2005. Surviving are four daughters and two sons: Willa Mae Banks, Rev. Theresa A. Bell, both of Winchester; Pamela F. Edwards (Bobby) of Roanoke; Nancy F. Barbour (Paul) of Ashburn; John D. Brisco (Clara) of Stephens City, and Troy D. Finley of Winchester. She is also survived by one brother, Webster Washington, Sr. of Winchester; 13 grandchildren, Larry Banks, Jr., Nikki (Richard) Greaux, Marcel (Amy) Banks, Nytasha Brisco, Soljomo Brisco, Josiah Brisco, Jeffrey (Kathleen) Bell, Jenea (Michael) Hamilton, Jamelah Chinn, Jenifer (Transito) Montiel, Shaun Edwards, Jonathan Edwards, Robin Lindsey Barbour; 16 great-grandchildren, Brennan, Damon, Nevaeh, Rylan, Darian, Aaron,Jalen, Trey, Jaevon, Malachi, Ethan, Ayden, Chira, Carter, Solomon, Genesis; one great great granddaughter, Ella Grace; three sisters-in-law, Gloria Dendy Johnson, Patricia Finley, Juanita Finley; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband and parents, Ella was also preceded in death by a son, Floyd R. “Bo” Finley IV; two great-grandchildren, Clayton and Syrea Winston; four brothers, William Washington, Sr., James Washington, Frisco Washington, and Richard Washington; and five sisters, Helen Parks, Viola Sheffield, Virginia Law, Christella Brown, and Hattie Sizemore

A Celebration of Life will be at 11a.m. Tuesday, December 27 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 1317 Pleasant Valley Road, Winchester, VA, with Dr. Gilbert M. Mack, Jr. officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour before service at the church

Interment will be in Orrick Cemetery in Winchester.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ella to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Showers for Souls Ministry that provides showers and clothing for the less fortunate.
