Mr. Wayne Bronson Bumgarner
(May 26, 1925 - December 20, 2016)

Wayne Bronson Bumgarner, 91, son of Bronson Bumgarner and Lena (Hargis) Bumgarner, was born May 26th, 1925 in Northview, Missouri and departed this life December 20th, 2016 peacefully surrounded by loved ones at his home in Strafford, Missouri.

Wayne spent most of his childhood in Strafford Missouri and Tulsa, Oklahoma where he attended the Baptist Church until his Mother's passing. He enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country during WWII in the Pacific.

Wayne carried himself proudly after a very humble childhood. He was always well-dressed, well-groomed and had the respect of his peers and clients and his wonderful friends, which included John Wayne who he counted as a personal friend. He lived life like the Duke, His own way all the way until his last breath.

He worked for his Father in California in the drilling business and in 1962 Wayne went into construction and built many rigs, invented drilling instruments and was an excellent provider for his large family as the Owner and President of Barney's Hole Digging Service, in Long Beach, California. Wayne also raised Fuyu Persimmons at the ranch in Temecula, California. Wayne will be Memorialized with a Persimmon Tree and Bench at the College of the Ozarks.

In Wayne's later years, he retired to Strafford, Missouri so they could be near family and friends. They made Strafford United Methodist Church their Church home. Wayne was a member of the Elks Lodge of Temecula and the VFW Post 7214 of Strafford. Wayne's kindness continued throughout his lifetime as he helped countless people, especially favoring young people aspiring to receive their college education. He helped many students each year attend College of the Ozarks and deeply cherished his longtime friendship with Dr. Jerry Davis and Mr. James Keeter. His wish was to have some of his WWII Memorabilia given to College of the Ozarks Museum. He also wanted to ensure that his Bobcat that he presented to Dr. Davis always be fed and cared for. It greets Visitors as they arrive in the Keeter Center.

Wayne was preceeded in death by his loving wife, Mary Eliza (Poyner) Bumgarner; his beloved Son Clarence “Barney” Bumgarner; his sister Pamela Carey and both of his parents.

He is survived by four sons, Edd Bumgarner and his wife, Anne of Long Beach, California, Ron Bumgarner and his wife, Sue of Las Vegas, Nevada, Don Bumgarner and Peggy of Strafford, Missouri and Ross Bumgarner and Sue of Cypress, California; Eight Grandchildren, Scott, Chad, Leslie, Wayne, Ryan, Casey, Roy and Brett; Eight Great-Granchildren, Bradley, Bronson, Ava, Gracie, Payton, Devon, Kenzo and Koji and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends along with his special friend Gloria whom he had many adventures and travels.

A special thank you to Maria Long, a faithful friend to Wayne and his wife Mary and special thanks for the excellent care of Hospice Compassus of Springfield and to everyone who cared for Wayne with love and grace during his illness including Braxton who greeted Wayne every day.

Wayne was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a cherished brother and uncle and a caring neighbor and friend. He was so very proud of his Family. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will cherish his memory for the rest of our lives. He will be greatly missed!

Wayne asked that donations be made to the United Methodist Church of Strafford, Missouri or the Charity that touches your Heart.
