Dr. Gloria Millie Apio Ameny-Dixon was born April 29, 1961 in Lira, Lango District in Uganda, East Africa. She is the daughter of the late Mr. Yekosafati Odomoch, a professor at Uganda Technical College, Kyambago Campus and the late Mrs. Terofaina Arao Odomoch, a teacher at Makerere High School.

Dr. Ameny-Dixon received her Ph.D. in Science Education in 1999 and her Masters in Dairy Science in 1994 from Louisiana State University. She received her bachelor's degree of Veterinary Medicine at Makerere University from Uganda, East Africa in 1986. She is also a recipient of a certificate of higher education assessment from Harvard University in 2012.

Dr. Ameny-Dixon was Associate Vice President for Planning and Assessment for three years at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. Prior to that, she was a professor at University of Indianapolis in Indiana, McNeese State University and Louisiana State University. She became a U.S. citizen last year in March 20, 2014 after living in America for over 20 years.

Dr. Ameny-Dixon was a published author, academic and scholar, with contributions to various science and education journals and books in her field of study. Dr. Ameny-Dixon is a daughter, loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt and friend. She was very family-oriented and caring. Aside from her own immediate family here in the United States, she also supported her extended family back home in East Africa for years while working here in America.

Dr. Ameny-Dixon departed this life to join the ancestors on Wednesday April 1 at 3:05 am at the age of 53, 29 days before her 54th birthday.

Dr. Ameny-Dixon leaves to cherish her memory her husband Mr. Melvin Huston, her stepmother Mrs. Helen Odomoch; daughters Arao Ameny and Sheila Ameny; sons Andrew Ameny, Joshua Dixon and Tyler Huston; her son-in-law Jason Green; her special niece and nephew Dalton and Brenda Odomoch; and a host of friends, relatives and colleagues.
