June Thompson, age 79, of Rudyard, Michigan passed away Sunday morning, December 18, 2016 at McLaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey.

June was born June 2, 1937 in Newberry, Michigan to the late Charles and Margaret (Sanderlin) Simmons. On August 8, 1953, June married Lee A. Thompson in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting. For many years, June created stuffed animals and dolls that were donated to the Salvation Army for the children and also given to her family and friends. She also loved spending time with her family and her dogs.

June is survived by her husband: Lee A. Thompson: six children: Lee A. Thompson, Jr. of Michigan, Susan K. Burks of Huntsville, MO, Mary Ann Etcher of Michigan, Ronald W. (Pat) Thompson of Sedalia, MO, Jane E. (Tom) Lanaville of Wilson, MI, and Timothy J. Thompson of Michigan; a daughter-in-law: Elke Thompson of Massena, NY, 26 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. June is also survived by her siblings: Dale “Jerry” Simmons of AZ, Ralph (Dee) Simmons of MI, Tom (Ruth) Richards of MI, Donna (Rick) Spencer of MI, Brenda (Steve) Ruddock of MI, Linda Richards of MI, Pat Stroup of MI, and Bonnie (Bruce) Byrns of MI.

June was preceded in death by her parents, two sons: Robert E. Thompson and James A. Thompson; two grandchildren: James Thompson II and Sara Reeder; three great grandbabies, and a sister: Carrie Simmons.

According to June's wishes, no public services will be held. Burial will be at Kinross Lakeview Cemetery in the spring.
