Allen Dale Wetherholt, 77, of Wheeler, Illinois, passed away at 5:45 pm, Wednesday, December 21, 2016, in rural Jasper County.

Services celebrating Allen Dale’s life will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at the Latona Church of Christ in Latona, Illinois, with Nate Hagen officiating. Burial will be in the Bailey Cemetery west of Latona, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 pm Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the church, with masonic services at 8:00 pm.

In loving memory of Allen Dale, memorials may be made to the Latona Church of Christ. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Allen Dale was born in Robinson, Illinois on February 6, 1939, the son of Leland and Amy (Stockwell) Wetherholt. He married the love of his life, Ruth Shadle on February 10, 1961, in Dieterich, Illinois, and she preceded him in death on December 10, 2016.

Allen Dale retired from Newton Power Station after many years of service. He also worked at Dan Hecht Chevrolet in Effingham and at the Effingham Moose Lodge.

Allen Dale was a member of the Latona Church of Christ, member of the Winterrowd Masonic Lodge #664 in Dieterich for 41 years, and was a Shriner and a member of the Ainad Temple.

Allen Dale enjoyed fishing, hunting and farming. He loved to spend time with his family and friends at the cabin at Wetherholt Lake.

Allen Dale is survived by 3 children, Tom (Lisa) Wetherholt of Wheeler, Illinois, Scott (Lisa) Wetherholt of Newton, Illinois and Lori (Todd) Marshall of Wheeler, Illinois; sister, Doris (Harold) Chaney of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; brother-in-law, Dean (Pauline) Shadle of Ingraham, Illinois; sister-in-law, Beulah Shadle of Ingraham, Illinois; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Allen Dale was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 55 years, Ruth; granddaughter, Amy Alice Wetherholt; great-grandson, Jonathan Eldon Scott Stuckey; sisters, Virginia Shamhart, Patsy Marshall, Madonna Babbs and Clarrean Brooks; and brothers, Medford and Eldon Wetherholt.
