Private First Class Gary Steven Christenbury was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, PFC Christenbury served our country until February 10th, 1968 in Gia Dinh, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was married. It was reported that Gary died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. PFC Christenbury is on panel 38E, line 066 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.
Funeral services will be held in Wesleyan Methodist Church on Cedar Street Saturday at 3 p.m. for Gary Stevenson (Steve) Christenbury, of 120 Patterson Street, a 20 year old Concord Serviceman who was killed in Vietnam, February 10. Full military rites will be observed and the body will be taken to Love's Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, Stanfield, for interment. Services will be conducted by the Reverend Paul O. Titus, assisted by the Reverend Donald Ingle. The body wil be taken from Wilkinson's Funeral Home to the home of the Mother, Mrs Clyde Bostic, 695 Union Street, S. Ext. Young Christenbury was a native of Stanfield, son of Mrs Bostic and the late Ardrey Christenbury, and was in the 25th Infantry Division, U.S. Army when he was killed in action. Earlier reports stated he was fatally injured while searching villages in the Chu Chi area of South Vietnam. Surviving in addition to his Mother, are his Widow, Mrs Connie Lowder Christenbury; one sister, Mrs Elaine Kurley of Concord; and his grandmother, Mrs Ollie Smith of Stanfield.

He served with Alpha Company, 3rd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning", USARV.
He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
