Johnson County – Michael Brooks Childs, 75, passed away Friday, December 16, 2016.
He leaves behind his wife, Mary Jean Childs; his three daughters, Gina Childs Zartman, Holly Childs, and Sharon Childs; his six grandchildren, Trey Childs, Colby Childs, Bailey Parker, Shelby Tidmore, Jimmy Pearson and Haley Heaton; and his two great grandchildren, Landyn and Brendyn Gossett; his two step children Guinn Gandy and Karon Jordan and their children Grace Gandy, Kimberley, Laura, and Ashley Jordan.
Mike was proceeded in death by his much beloved son Michael Gregory Childs and his mother Melba Childs, his brother Ronnie Childs, aunt Margaret Goff and uncle Dalton Hawkins. Born in Fort Worth to Dominic Jessup Childs and Melba (Hawkins) Childs,
Mike and his brother Ronnie were raised in Caddo where he became an avid fisherman and hunter. It was also during this time Mike developed his lifelong passion for music where he would go on to become an accomplished musician playing in bands across the entire state. After High School Mike joined the Army Signal Corps and served in Germany. After his military service he was hired by General Motors and worked at the GM assembly plant in Arlington for over 30 years until his retirement in 1994. After retirement Mike continued to perform with his lifelong fellow musicians at private performances for family and friends across the state. To anyone with the unique privilege of knowing Mike Childs there was no better or trusted husband, father, or friend. He will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.
