Excerpt from a letter by his daughter, Ute (Jauernick) Schenck to her 1st cousin once removed, Donna (Jauernick) Boyer -
"My father, Erich Jauernick, (12.12.1906), was captivity in Russia in Kaukasus (trans. Caucasus) from Mai 1945 until October 1948. Then he comes to Hannover and he was very happy to see the whole family in a good health. From 1948 until August 1971 he worked as a locksmith by the tram in Hannover. In Kertschuetz he was a blacksmith master and Handler for Land-machines.
In August 1971 he died, together with my brother Horst (37 years old) by an automobile accident in Tirol/ Austria, they made holiday. My mother was 60 years old and lived alone until she died with 95 years, she had bad depressions.

Died on vacation with his family in an auto accident. His son, Horst, also died in the accident.
