Mary was one of 7 children of Solomon Rye an Elizabeth Williams.

Mary Rye married Aaron Monroe Anglin, on November 25 or 29, 1840 in Aberdeen, Monroe County, Mississippi. They had 9 children, leaving Mississippi and moving to Lamar County, Texas about the time of the birth of son, John Marion Anglin. Their children were: William Thomas, Mary Elizabeth, Solomon Henry, Hutchins Sheppard, James Wesley, John Marion, Robert Morrow, Margaret Emelie and Lucy Ann.

Mary Rye stayed behind when John Marion moved his family to Washington State. She lived, apparently, with the Hutchins Shepard Anglin family. She died in Texas and is buried in Oakland Cemetery, Comanche County, Texas, Cent #23. (From Gorman Texas, take FM 587 10.3 miles to County Rd. 170. Turn North and go 2.5 miles to the cemetery).

Note: On the 1900 census, John lists his mother's birthplace as Alabama. On the 1880 Census, Mary is living with John and Emily in Lamar County, Texas. She lists both of her parents as born in Tennessee. Research shows them born in North Carolina and Virginia.
