She had a servant's heart and spent her life caring for her family, which included 9 siblings, 26 nieces and nephews, and most recently, her heart and namesake, great-niece Marilyn Rose.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel P. Newman; her parents, Major Melvin Dotson and Mildred Patrick Dotson; and 7 of her siblings.
Survivors include sisters, Martha Fairley (Charles), and Cheryl Hannon (Phillip); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 9:00-11:00am, Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at Lakeshore Congregational Methodist Church on Siwell Road in Byram. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am in the church sanctuary with interment in Lakewood Memorial Park, Clinton Boulevard.
