He was born the son of George and Mary Catherine (Rahilly) Nostrand.
He attended High Point College in North Carolina and graduated from the University of Wyoming. A former professional basketball player with the Boston Celtics from 1948-50, he held various coaching positions in Elizabethtown, NY, and Lincoln, Maine. He also taught at Bellows Falls Union High School, VT from 1960-68.
Mr. Nostrand had been employed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and by Rich Plan of Northern New England. He was serving as chairman of the board of selectmen of Alstead, NH. He was a member of BPOE No. 1619 and the Knights of Columbus.
On October 4, 1947, in Newport, NY, he married the former R. Eleanor Burmaster, who survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by five sons; four daughters; and five grandchildren.
A funeral mass was celebrated by the Reverend Thomas Ball at St. Charles Church in Bellows Falls. Interment followed in St. Charles Cemetery in Westminster, VT.
