Reverend Carl S. Lengefeld, age 67, of Texarkana, Arkansas, died May 3, 2008 in Tyler, Texas.

He was born August 27, 1940 in Round Rock, Texas the son of Karl Christain and Lorene Maude (Mercer) Lengefeld.

Carl graduated from Round Rock High School, received a BA degree in social studies from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), and a Master's Degree in Theology from the seminary in Fort Worth.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

While in Viet Nam, he received Jesus as his personal savior and began a ministry that would last for thirty-five years, pasturing churches and preaching to the homeless. Carl was a Chaplain for the Salvation Army.

He and Margaret Beall were married November 23, 1968.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his step-father, Clifford Eugene Wheatley.

Survivors are his wife, Margaret; a son, David Lengefeld (and wife, Emily) of Poyen; a daughter, Mary Peter (and husband, Preston) of Fayetteville; a brother, Bobby Lengefeld of Florida; two sisters, Dorothy Ayers of Fayetteville and Mae Hartzell (and husband, Bob) of Pennsylvania; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Assembly of God Church in Poyen, with Brother David Walker and David Lengefeld officiating.

Interment will follow at Lindsey-Poyen Cemetery with Full Military Honors provided by the Thaddeus H. Caraway Post 2278.

Pallbearers are T. Preston Peter, Bill Robinson, Blake Robinson, Todd Henderson, David Kosters, and Mike White.

Honorary pallbearers are Major Chambles, Reverend Billy Graham, Reverend Freeman Henderson, Preston Riley, and Reverend Kenny Preston.
