Chester W. Coulter, a lifetime resident of Grove City, passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 15, 2016, following an extended illness. He was 87. Chester was born in Grove City on Feb. 2, 1929, to Chester W. and Florence C. (Graham) Coulter. He married Clara M. McCandless on Sept. 20, 1951; she preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 2004. He served in the Korean conflict with the Army from March 1951 to February 1953. Chester retired in 1991 from General Electric of Grove City, where he was employed for 17 years. He was a longtime member of Tower Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and elder. He also belonged to Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 603 and was a former member of the Grove City Kiwanis Club. Chester enjoyed working on automobiles and belonged to Classic Croozers Car Club. Also, he enjoyed helping his two grandsons restore and repair antique farm tractors and he was a longtime member of the Mercer County Antique Power Association. He was a lifetime member of the Grove City Historical Society. For 30 years he served as caretaker of Woodland Cemetery. Chester is survived by two sons, Dennis C. Coulter, Fredonia; and Thomas G. Coulter and his wife Peggy, Grove City; two grandsons, Reece Coulter and his wife Sarah; and Taylor Coulter, all Grove City; a stepsister, Kathryn Phipps; and a half brother, James Coulter. Besides his wife and parents, Chester was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Huey, Mary Johnston and Elitha Keenan; and two brothers, Clyde M. and Theodore Coulter. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
