Per Marty Hiatt, great-grandchild, Maranda had taken the train to Nowata, Oklahoma to visit a daughter. She was a little woman, and had to carry her own suitcase as she walked to the house. Upon arrival she collapsed and died of a heart attack. This was told to her by Maranda's granddaughter, a 7-yr-old daughter of the woman she was going to visit.
