Retired Nurse and Office Manager AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. , 87, widow of Preston S. Barber, Sr, entered into rest on December 24, 2006. She was born in Columbia, SC on July 22, 1919, but lived most of her life in Augusta. She was educated in the Richmond county School System graduating from Tubman High School with honors. She was a long time member of St. James United Methodist Church where she worked in the Children and Youth Department and was Secretary of the Emma Lester Bible Class for over 50 years. Mrs. Barber worked as a nurse/office manager for Dr. Thomas W. Goodwin and Dr. M.H. Wylie for a number of years before retiring. She was a very caring, loving and compassionate person who was well loved and respected by all who knew her. Mrs. Barber is survived by her son, Preston S. Barber, Jr. and daughter-in-law Judy K. Barber and grandson Thomas P. Barber. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her mother Myrdie Lawless and her sister Margorene Seckler. A celebration of her life was held Thursday, December 28 , 2006, 2:00 PM, in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors with the Revs. Ron Wasiluk and Linda Burchall officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Tom Barber, Brian Ellis, John Flythe, Joel Huggins, Richard Downing and Richard Isdell. Honorary Pallbearers were members of The Emma Lester Bible Class.
