Bonita J. Hazlett, 78, of Pekin, passed away 1:57 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2016 at her residence.

Born March 20, 1938 in St. Elmo to William and Louise (Durbin) Guthrie, she married Harry Hazlett on August 29, 1954 in Pekin. He died July 23, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Michelle Hazlett and two brothers.

Surviving are three sons, Randy Hazlett and Steve ( Pam) Hazlett, both of Pekin and Terry (Tana) Hazlett of Effingham; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and one sister, Loretta L Moore of Front Royal, Virginia.

Bonita had worked at Pekin Hospital until April 1999.

A loving and Christ devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Bonita loved starting her day off reading her Bible and spending time with her family.

She was a longtime member of North Pekin Church of the Nazarene, where she enjoyed spending time with her church family.

Her memorial graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Lakeside Cemetery. Pastor Ron Jansen will officiate. There will be no visitation. A gathering celebrating Bonita’s life will begin at 2:30 p.m. at North Pekin Church of the Nazarene.

Arrangements are being handled by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 4722 N. Sheridan Road, Peoria, Il 61614 or American Diabetes Association, 2501 Chatham Road, Suite 210, Springfield, IL 62704.
