Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Black and her husband, Tom; her daughter in-law, Elizabeth Van Fossen Abdalla; and three grandchildren, Bradley Elizabeth Black, Amanda Barron Black and Jasmine Marie Abdalla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Harold Abdalla, her son, Harold Charles Abdalla; her parents, Joseph A. Dejean and Rita Mills Dejean, both of St. Landry Parish, and three brothers, Alden Dejean, Albert Lee Dejean and Frederick Wilton Dejean.
A native of St. Landry Parish and a resident of Lafayette since 1938, Mrs. Abdalla graduated from Opelousas Catholic High School and received her teaching degree from the Academy of the Sacred Heart. She taught high school for a brief time as retail was her calling.
Mrs. Abdalla was co-owner of Abdalla's Department Store. She a member of the St. John's Ladies Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of America Court Immaculata, as well as the Cathedral and Fatima Mothers' Clubs. She has served on the Board of the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau.
Mrs. Abdalla was a Ladies Committee Member of the Greater Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras Association, one of the original members of the Krewe of Attakapas and the Order of the Troubadours. She was a member of L'heure d'amitie and a faithful supporter of Faith House.
Mrs. Abdalla was affectionately called Cher Mom by her family, Aunt Dade or Aunt Lena by her nieces and nephews and was considered to be the epitome of the definition of the word "lady".
