Amy was a daughter of Jon Cheston and Jill Arlene Oplinger.
Amy married Dennis Charles McMonigle (1956-2016) on May 16, 1981 in Annapolis, Anne Arundel Co., Maryland. They had three identified children.

Amy McMonigle was born Amy Carol Cheston in Annapolis, Maryland on October 29, 1960. On November 22, 2016, she passed into eternal life, joining her beloved husband Dennis who preceded her in death five weeks earlier on October 16.
Amy lived within a few miles of her birthplace and childhood home her whole life, attending Annapolis High School and Anne Arundel Community College, and working at Tilghman's jewelry store beginning in high school. She was 17 years old when she met the love of her life, Dennis McMonigle, and 20 when they were married at Heritage Baptist Church on May 16, 1981. In 1985, Amy began working at BOMI International, and just passed her 31st anniversary, serving most recently as Vice President for Administration.
There are too many people to mention for whom Amy was a source of light and love-but among them were her children, son- and daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, her parents and siblings, her husband Dennis's family, her church community, and her workplace.
Amy was a beloved mother of Corey McMonigle (Angela), Kailey Hubbard (Dale), and Cassidy McMonigle. She was a cherished grandmother "Mimi" to Kinsley, Sunnie, and Easton, whom she delighted in babysitting for regularly. As the middle of five siblings, Amy was the "center" for Susy Cheston (Artie Harris), Jenny Francis (Tom), Sally Twentey (Ann Long), and Dan Cheston (Jilby)-they made music together all their lives, often accompanied by their mother on piano. She was a beloved sister-in-law and stepsister and a loving aunt to dozens of nephews and nieces and their spouses. She looked forward to spending time with her husband Dennis' family at their reunion every year in North Carolina. She was beloved daughter of Jill and Bill Leonard, Jon Cheston and Nancy Hauswald, and Carolyn and Karlton Morris; and beloved daughter-in-law of Shirley and Ed McMonigle.
Amy and Dennis were people of deep faith who were active at College Parkway Baptist Church for 35 years. Amy served many leadership roles there, but was best known for her angelic soprano voice. Even at her husband's funeral, Amy's voice soared as she sang along with the congregation on the hymn "Because He Lives I Can Face Tomorrow." She sang in high school with "The Instruments of Peace" ensemble, and for her entire life sang solos as well as duets and trios with her sisters. She was also known for her beautiful and welcoming "shabby chic" home-where even the insides of her cabinets were color coordinated--and for antiquing and other shopping sprees, especially with her sister Jenny. In high school, Amy would iron her jeans halfway through the day and then put them back on, and her whole life she kept high standards for how she looked. She always looked beautiful-but what was most beautiful about her was her grateful heart, service to others, and the way she always saw the best in the people around her.
Above all, Amy delighted in her family-her church family, her work family, and her extended family and friends. The centerpiece of her dining room table was a wooden tool box that she re-purposed for crayons for her grandchildren. It was just like Amy to have crayons always available in a way that was creative yet organized, and pretty yet practical, sitting on top of a large farm table that welcomed all.
In keeping with her lifetime of generosity, on Thanksgiving Day Amy's organs were donated, saving the lives of many. Her family hopes to carry on her legacy of giving life to others.
