John Konkle an old resident of Montoursville died yesterday from the results of rheumatism.

John S Konkle was born in Fairfield township and was a son of Adam Konkle. He received a limited education, and after learning the carpenters trade he became a contractor. He settled on Lycoming Creek and built the first bridge across that stream for the Northern Central Railroad. He also erected the Eagle Hotel and the woolen mills in Williamsport and was engage in the lumber and mercantile business. After the flood of 1865 he built the Lycoming Creek and Muncy aqueducts. From 1838 until his death he resided in Montoursville. He was a Whig and a Republican in politics. He united with the Methodist Episcopal Church when he was 18 years old and remained a consistent member until his death. On Feb 21 1838 he married Miss Susan Lundy, and they have 3 children Julia Ann who married Lewis Biehl, Ellis W and Frank HKonkle.
