Robert E. "Bob" Byrnes, age 88, of Ovid, Michigan, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Welcome Home Assisted Living, Elsie, Michigan.
Robert was born in Perry, Michigan on July 24, 1928, the son of Joseph and Rose (Powers) Byrnes. He graduated from Ovid High School with the class of 1949. On November 5, 1949, he married Waneta Ann Frisbie in Laingsburg, Michigan.
Bob was a tool & die maker for 31 years at Oldsmobile in Lansing, retiring in 1981. After retirement he held some part time jobs working for McClelland Milk Hauling, Sheldon Meat Packing and drove cars for Sundance Chevrolet in St. Johns. He was a member of the Ovid Lions Club for over 50 years. Bob also served on the Ovid Ambulance and Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed sports including bowling and golfing. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Ovid, Michigan.
He is survived by his wife, Waneta Byrnes of Ovid, Michigan; 2 daughters, Sherry Byrnes of Ovid, Michigan and Julie Byrnes of Alpena, Michigan; 5 sons, Paul & Terri Byrnes of Adrian, Michigan, Rob & Robin Byrnes of Whitmore Lake, Michigan, Kevin & Lorii Byrnes of Fowlerville, Michigan, Mark & Darlene Byrnes of Laingsburg, Michigan, Bradley & Kelly Byrnes of Laingsburg, Michigan; 9 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his sister-in-law, Doris Byrnes of Ovid, Michigan.
He was predeceased by his parents; 2 sisters, Dorothy and Joan; and 2 brothers, Raymond and Hugh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, Ovid, MI, on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, MI.
