David Dale Gragg, 85 of Painesville Twp., passed away December 6, 2016 at his home. Born February 24, 1931 in Cass, WV, the son of Charles Osenton and Fannie Bernice (Sheets) Gragg.
In his early years, Dale would help with chores on the family farm and work in the family's general store. He attended Cass Elementary School and graduated from Green Bank High School in 1949, whereupon he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in Korean until 1953 where he earned the Korean Service Medal, Japanese Occupation Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation and Good Conduct Medal. He went on to attend West Virginia University.
He and his wife Betty Jeanne were married September 4, 1954 at the Painesville Church of the Nazarene. He was a life member of the BPOE, Elks Lodge 549 in Painesville and a Charter Member of the Goldwing Road Riders Association. He retired from Lake Hospital System in 1993. Prior to that he worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company in Mentor, Ohio.
Dale had a passion for the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting & fishing. As a private pilot he enjoyed recreational flying. Known for his wit and humor, he enjoyed story telling and spending time on his front porch with friends and family.
He is survived by his sons, Allen Gragg of Painesville, Randy (Jennifer) Gragg of Charleston, SC and Scott (Kerry) Gragg of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Colleen, Heather, Spencer, Parker Mae, Elle, Dawson, Donovan and Dade Gragg; great grandchildren, Christian, Ava, Ryleigh & Olive; sister, Rachel Ellen (Gordon) Rudd; sister-in-law, Nellie Marie Gragg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gragg was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jeanne (Wagner) Gragg; parents, Charles Osenton and Fannie Bernice (Sheets) Gragg; brother, Neil Edgar Gragg and infant brother, Allen Lee Gragg.
Family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Avenue (opposite Lake Erie College), Painesville.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Painesville Church of the Nazarene, 6235 Chestnut Street. Rev. Thomas Purchase will officiate.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Ohio Living Hospice. Burial will take place in Perry Cemetery.
