A. T. Merriman, a prominent stone dealer, died yesterday morning at 4 o'clock at his residence, No. 1208 Judson avenue, Evanston. The day before he became overheated while working, and at 9 o'clock at night was taken suddenly ill with a neuralgia attack, which ended a few hours later in death. Mr. Merriman was born in Massachusetts in 1830. In 1853 he came to Chicago, but a year later went to Kansas, returning to this city in 1857, and in 1867 he organized the firm of Kavanaugh, Merriman & Co. In 1872 his firm consolidated with another and was known as the Singer & Talcott Stone company. He invented a gang-saw and planer which are in general use.
