Per Kathy Weaver; "Henry was the son of Davis W Blackmar and Rosamond A Harrington. He was one of three sons who served in the Civil War. Brothers Edwin and Francis served with the 15th Iowa Infantry.
Henry was a resident of Glenwood when he enlisted as a Sergeant on 1 Jul 1861 at the age of 21. He mustered in Co A 4th Iowa Infantry on 15 Aug 1861. Promoted to Full 1st Sergeant on 1 Sep 1862 and to Full 2nd Lieutenant on 18 Apr 1863. Henry mustered out on 30 Oct 1864.
Henry died at the soldier's home at Burkett, Nebraska in 1909. He was brought to Glenwood for burial. He formerly lived in Glenwood and his wife, Eliza, was buried at Glenwood.
Henry died at the age of 69 years.

News was received here last Sunday, from Lincoln, of the death of Henry R. Blackmar. He was taken to Lincoln by his son only a few days ago. Death occurred Thursday, and resulted from heart disease. Mr. Blackmar was a former resident of Ashland, Neb., where he lived for a number of years. He was born in Ohio and was 69 years of age. The deceased served three years as sergeant in Company A, Fourth Iowa infantry, and come here to the Home (meaning Grand Island) in 1905.
