Grand Gorge- ( " Red " ) Conklin, 80 , of Grand Gorge ( NY ) died Thursday, Jan. 5, 1989, at his home.
He was born Nov. 15, 1908, in Cooks Falls ( NY ), the son John and Frances (Barnhart) Conklin. He married Jessie Bound in Cooks Falls. She died in 1959, he later married Dortha Van Loan, who died in 1971. On Nov. 15, 1988, he married Ginny Wayman, who survives.
A lifelong area resident, he retired in 1974 after working for 51 years for the New York Central Railroad. He was an honorary member of the Grand Gorge Fire Department.
Besides his wife, of Grand Gorge, he is survived by his one son, Arnold Conklin of Boonville ( NY ) ; five daughters, Doris Kasmer of Coos Bay, Oregano, Arita Jaeger of Jewett ( NY ), Janet Austin of Verona ( NY ), Regina Garber of Rome ( NY ) and Kay VanValkenburgh of Ashland ( NY ) ; 24 grandchildren; 23 grand - grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Helen Steele.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 7, 1989 in the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury ( NY ), with the Rev. Howard Velzy of Woodstock ( NY) officiating. Burial will be in the Roxbury Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Grand Gorge Fire Department Ambulance Squad.
