Maurice Max Miller (1929–2016) passed away peacefully on December 4, 2016. He was born in New Albany, Indiana on February 18, 1929. He was the son of Elder Miller and Annette Miller.
Maurice was 15 years old when he graduated from New Albany Indiana High School, and then attended Indiana University where he majored in nuclear physics. He attended IU from 1945–1952 where he was Phi Beta Kappa and received his AB, MA, and PhD in nuclear physics with the highest honors at the age of 21.
From June 1949–June 1953, Maurice worked with Edward Teller on a classified project at Los Alamos Scientific Lab, Los Alamos, New Mexico. He served in the Army during the Korean War, received a National Service Medal among other honors, and was honorably discharged.
After 40 years of service, he retired from Lockheed as Vice President. His projects included C130, C5A, Polaris, Poseidon, Trident 1 and Trident 2, the Space Shuttle, and the Space Station. After retiring, he became the Executive Vice President of Cimmaron, Inc.
He married Judith Boyd in Reno in 1962, and they had three children, Michael Miller, Mark Miller, and Dana Miller, all born in Atlanta, GA. He is survived by his family and numerous incredible friends whom he cherished deeply.
A memorial service will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Drive, Houston, Texas, on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 3:30 pm. Maurice will be be buried with military honors on Wednesday, December 7, 2:15 pm, at the National Cemetery located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.
