In 1950 she married Clifford Albin in Plainview, and a few years later, moved to Oakland, Nebraska. Cliff owned an excavating and lawn sprinkler business. Shirley received her Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching at Dana College in Blair, Nebraska; she taught grades K-8 in a rural, one-room school for thirteen years.
Cliff and Shirley had two children, Rick and Curt; six grandchildren, Emily, Jennifer, Rachel, Nick, Dru and Nate; four great grandchildren, Paige, Brooke, Hailey and Axel. Sadly, Clifford died in 1984. Shirley began working part-time at the Oakland City Hall; she traveled and worked with her sons in the auction business as a cashier and an official pitch game scorekeeper.
Shirley was an avid card player; she liked to cook, grow flowers and vacation with friends in Las Vegas. She was a very loyal member of First United Methodist Church in Oakland. She was involved in numerous church activities, teaching Sunday school and assisting the United Methodist Women’s group in preparing meals for special occasions.
In 2012 Shirley moved to Nye Square in Fremont, Nebraska. In 2014 she relocated to the Northfield Retirement Center, allowing her to be closer to family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Meta; husband, Clifford; two brothers, Floyd and Clyde; sister, Betty.
She is survived by her two sons, Rick (Connie) Albin of Northfield and Curt (Christy) Albin of North Richland Hills, TX; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren.
Shirley’s favorite bible verse was Psalm 121. This verse expresses the assurance of God’s protection day and night, coming and going."
