When Bernadette was attending Taos High school, she met Armando Valerio, who was the school bus driver at that time. The two hit it off, pretty much love at first sight.
(I remember my grandpa Armando saying that "she was the most beautiful woman in the world.")
On October 19, 1975, Bernadette and Armando put out a wedding notice in the Santa Fe New Mexican newspaper, on page 20.
:Romero-Valerio:
"A November 1 wedding at Bethel Church near Taos is planned by Miss Bernadette Romero and Armando R. Valerio.
Miss Romero is the daughter of D. Ben Romero of El Prado. Valerio is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Teodoro Valerio of Talpa. A reception in the Old Martinez Hall in Ranchos de Taos will follow the ceremony."
On November 1, Bernadette and Armando Valerio were officially married, together the two only had one son named Armando Jr, on April 7, 1976.
Sadly on October 22, 1976, Bernadette Valerio would die in a car accident, at the age of 19.
:An 18 year old Taos woman was killed and five others injured in a two car collision Friday October 22 on Highway 3 North of Taos.
The victim Bernadette Valerio was a passenger in a car driven by her husband Armando, 21, when the accident occurred at about (10?) P.M. Friday, according to New Mexico State Police.
Police said the Valerio's and their six month old son Armando Valerio Jr were southbound in the vicinity of Rael's Superette when their vehicle apparently failed to negotiate a turn on the wet highway, veered into the opposite lane and was struck broadside on the passenger side by a vehicle driven by Michael Vargas 27, also of Taos.
Mrs. Valerio and her son were thrown from the car in the collision, which left the infant underneath the vehicle according to police. The mother was pronounced dead of neck and maternal injuries at the Holy Cross Hospital.
Injured in the collision were the Valerio child, who suffered multiple leg fractures the infants father.
Vargas and his wife Rose each of whom suffered face injuries after striking the windshield of their car, and George Ortiz, 27, of Questa, a passenger in the Vargas vehicle, who suffered a fractured leg.
State Police (?) At the scene speculated after the accident that proper use of seatbelts when were available but unused in both vehicles might have averted the fatality, and would have resulted in only minor injuries for the other five victims of the crash."

She was smart, caring, pretty, and a good mom.
