Obituary, Southern Sentinel, 2-20-1896

In Memory

Of Mrs. Cherry Cavaness, who was born on Mar. 3, 1810 and died Jan. 8, 1896 at the home of her son F. H. Cavaness, Yellow Rabbit, Benton Co., Miss. She had lived out more than her allotted time - being 85 years, 10 months, and 5 days old. A life of honor and worth, such as she lived, has no eternity on earth, but yonder at the "beautiful gate" do they receive their reward. The good and noble deeds of mercy she has done will live long after she is but dust.
She leaves 7 children - 4 girls and 3 boys, and many grandchildren to mourn her loss; but we should rejoice rather than weep, for she is at peace. "Where the wicked cease from troubling and we are at rest." She was buried at Hopewell Presbyterian church near Saulsbury, Tenn. Rev. Laird conducting the funeral services in the presence of a large crowd. She was not a member of any church, but often said she was going to live a Christian life, which we truly believe she did.

- A relative,
Owl Creek, Miss.

-----------------------------------------------------
Grave is not marked, but believed to be near the grave of her son, Francis Caviness.
