Born October 15, 1821 in Mississippi Territory, John Benjamine Franklin Cook was the son of Rev. Isaac Newton Cook and Rachael Graham. He was apparently raised to maturity in Thomas CO, Georgia. Rev. Cook was a planter in the old South. He was a shrewd businessman, a devout Christian minister, land speculator, cattleman, sheepman, and farmer. His life can be traced through his ministry and his business transactions most of which there are copies of.

Rev. John Cook was ordained 1835 at Oakey Pond, Jackson Co, Fla, at an annual meeting of the Baptist Assn. by his father, Rev. Isaac Newton Cook. A Missionary Baptist minister, Rev. John established and ministered to many churches throughout southern Alabama and Texas. (Information from: Cooks in America by Sherry Nicholas)
Reverend Cook fathered twenty-one children in two marriages. He married first, Lucinda Hutchinson; and second, Elizabeth Eva Hart.

John F. and Elizabeth left Alabama and moved to the state of Texas about 1872-3 settling in Cook CO. He at one time owned two sections of land on either side of the Red River. He paid ten cents per acre and went into the sheep business with an Englishman. Rev. Cook is believed to be buried in an unmarked grave at the foot of Elizabeth Hart Cook's grave.
