GALLIPOLIS, August 8
At Yellowtown, five miles west of here, last evening, James Canterbury and Henry Haskins quarreled about the possession of a stable. Canterbury produced a rifle and deliberately shot Haskins through the left breast, killing him instantly. Canterbury was arrested and brought to this place and lodged in jail this morning.
Both have been under indictment for some time past, for passing counterfeit money, and at a recent examination before the United States commissioner at Cincinnati, Haskins was discharged and Canterbury released on bail. Both were noted desperadoes, and feared by all people in the vicinity.
