After fighting hard for four years, Kathryn Diane Nelson lost her battle with cancer and was called home at the age of 63 on Monday, March 10th, 2014.

Kathy was born in Bremerton, WA on October 26, 1950 to Rodney and Irene Carlson. She graduated from Camarillo HS in southern California, and later met James A Palmer whom she married in June 1970. They had two children, James and Karen.

Kathy was a kind and caring mother, friend, and sister. Later in life, Kathy remarried to Albert Walter Nelson in January, 2001. He preceded her in death in July, 2006. For the past decade, Kathy has worked as a baker in the Gig Harbor Safeway, where her ready smile brought joy to those around her.

Kathy is survived by her two children James and Karen, her father Rodney, and her sister Janice. Her memorial service will be held at Peninsula Lutheran Church in Gig Harbor on Saturday, March 22nd at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Free to Breathe Lung Cancer Survival (www.freetobreathe.org) or the Franciscan Hospice House (253-534-7000).
