Herbert Hemenway Bain The family of Herbert H. Bain is sad to announce his passing on January 4, 2007, surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born in Helena, Montana on November 1st, 1924 to Lydia H. and James G. Bain. He is survived by his wife of sixty plus years Betty Marie; three children, Carolyn Graf (Douglas), Christine Wemmer (Daniel) Robert Bain (Leslie); nine grandchildren, Marty, Julie, Wendy, Michael, Lori, Cindy, Tiffany, Kristin, Carrie and eleven and 8/9ths great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, James R. Bain (Eleanor) and special family friend, Grandma Elaine Osage. After growing up in Los Angeles and attending UCLA, he achieved the rank of First Lieutenant flying his P-38 Lightning, dubbed "Betty" during WWII. After the service he worked in sales and management for Kraft Foods, Olympia Brewery, Anheuser Busch and then in 1972 he purchased a Budweiser Distributorship in Tacoma, WA, partnering with Bob Bennett until Bob's retirement. Herb continued his distributorship as it grew to be the largest Anheuser Busch wholesaler in the state. He was active with the Washington State Beer and Wine Wholesalers Association and served as President from 1978 – 1980. Herb's love of golf and the many friends he made was evident to all who knew him. He was a member of Oakbrook Golf and Country Club in Lakewood, WA serving as President in 1978. He was also a member of Mission Hills Golf and Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA. Herb was a member of the Lutheran Church in both Tacoma, WA. and Palm Desert, CA. He was a kind, generous, fun loving person, who had a huge heart and would do anything for friends and family alike. Viewing will be held Thursday January 11, 2007 from 12:00 – 9:00PM. at Mountain View, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW Lakewood, WA. 253-584-0252. We will be celebrating the gifts that his life brought to each of us in a funeral service on Friday January 12th at 2:00PM at Mountain View in the Valley Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Tacoma, WA. or Metro Parks Foundation/Junior Golf Endowment Fund.
