Services will be held at noon Monday, Feb. 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Buehler-Larson Funeral Home in Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters Rosary will be said at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday evening. Visitation will continue from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. There will no visitation at the church on Monday.
Eva and her twin brother, Adam, were born May 5, 1911 in Katherinental, Russia, the son and daughter of George Adam and Isabelle (Kastner) Boehm. Adam died as an infant.
In September 1911, the family, together with [father's siblings] brother Frank and his wife, joined the other Boehm brothers, Peter, William and Nicholas, who had already made their home in Mandan.
Eva received her elementary education at St. Joseph's School in Mandan and graduated from St. Benedict's Academy. She joined the Benedictine Convent, served for a year and then returned to Mandan. She was employed by the U.S. government, the Mandan Beverage Company and Pfenning Electric, and then served as bookkeeper for Cloverdale Foods for many years.
She married Christopher Karls in February 1963. Chris died in 1967.
Eva was an energetic person who enjoyed being with people throughout her long life and had an active interest is their well-being. Blessed with a nurturing nature, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, card games and, in particular, Scrabble and rummy royal. She lived in her own home until becoming a resident of the Medcenter One Care Center two months ago. Eva was a member of the Catholic Daughter of America for over 60 years and was a counselor for two Junior Catholic Daughter of America troops and was a social member of the CDA Degree of Honor.
She will be missed by those who survive her, including nieces, Joyce Boehm, Bismarck, Linda Ziegler, Sioux Falls, S.D., Georgia Bockoven, California, and Judy Boehm, Montana; a nephew, Robert Boehm; many great-nieces and great-nephews, including a special great-nephew, Ray Eisenmann and his wife, Camille, Bismarck; many great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; one sister-in-law, Louisa Boehm; and special friends, Jerry Hulm, Theresa Tokach, Betty Braun and Delveen Steckler.
Her husband; her twin brother, Adam, who died as an infant; and brothers, Joseph, Adam II, George, Florian and Thomas; and her sister, Anna Marie Stephen, preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, Eva's family prefers that memorials be made to Catholic Daughters of America, Cecelia Court.
