John Everhart of Mt. Tabor Section Dies in Accident, Hit by High Voltage Working as Lineman; Fellow Worker Dies

John Everhart, 39 son of Charlie Lee Everhart of the Mt. Tabor section on Lexington R. 2, and Albert Reed Bundy, 42, of High Point, R. 2, who has a sister at Wallburg and other relatives in Davidson County, were instantly killed while working as linemen for Duke Power company, near High Point Monday. An official of the power company was quoted as saying the two men were on the ground engaged in removing a pole that had formerly been used on a high tension line. During the operation the pole swung about and touched a high voltage wire carrying thirteen thousand volts and the current was conducted through the ground wire on the pole to the two linemen. A third workman was struck by the current but was knocked away from the pole and was not materially injured. Desperate efforts were made to resuscitate the men, including the use of an iron lung, but without results. Surviving Everhart are his father Charlie Lee Everhart; the widow, Nellie Whitlock Everhart; five sons, Glenn, James, Ted, Bobby and Steve; two daughter Norine and Frances, all of Lexington, R. 2; four brothers, Willie and Banks B. Everhart, Route 2, Harvey L., of Troy, and Grady Everhart, Lexington, R.1.; and three sisters, Mrs. Carl Hedrick and Mrs. Gertrude Crotts, Route 2, and Mrs. Mae Hanner, Greensboro, R. 4. Funeral services for Mr. Everhart were held from Mt. Tabor Evangelical and Reformed church at 2:30 yesterday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Alfred Sandrock, and Rev. C.E. Hiatt, former pastor. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were W. A. Graham, W. A. Helms, Frank Everhart, L.C. Jackson, R. N. Weaver and A. Kincaid. Honorary pallbearers were fellow employees of the Duke Power company. Mrs. Sid Smith was in charge of the flowers.
